Meta (WhatsApp’s parent company) has officially introduced an AI-powered Message Summaries feature in WhatsApp, using its “Meta AI” engine and a privacy centric framework dubbed Private Processing.
When there are a few unread messages in private chats, groups, or channels, WhatsApp will display a “Summarize with Meta AI” button replacing the usual “X unread messages” badge. Tapping on it gives you a quick recap of what did you miss.
The summary is private and optional, only visible to the users who requested it and it never appears for others in the conversation. WhatsApp’s new AI summaries offer a major boost for users who needs to manage busy chat threads, especially helpful in large groups.
Private processing framework of Meta attempts to balance innovation with robust privacy. After beta testing initially in U.S, these features are expected to roll out more broadly soon.
